When the total value of a Probate Estate is below $166,250 if the person died before April 1, 2022, $184,500 if the person died after April 1, 2022 and before April 1, 2025, or $750,000 if the person died after April 1, 2025 a reduced size probate action is available through a Small Estate Probate. The probate process is greatly reduced for a Small Estate over that of a Full Probate which simplified what is required, the time involved, and the costs involved. The value is gross value, so even there is a loan on property that brings the value below the required amount the Small Estate process would not be available if the appraised value is higher than the limit.
